Who’s Who in Luxury Real Estate members from across the globe convened in South beach, Florida in May for the 16th Annual Luxury Real Estate Spring Retreat. Attendees heard from a variety of accomplished presenters, connected with industry leaders and discussed the latest trends regarding luxury real estate around the world. The esteemed event culminated with a festive Cuban-themed closing party, honoring Lifetime Achievement Award recipients Dale and Matilde Sorensen and their many accomplishments in the industry.

 

BROKER Q&A

Dale and Matilde Sorensen: Dale Sorensen Real Estate, Inc.

How did you start real estate?

MS: I owned a quaint little store on the Barrier Island and I was helping Dale with his real estate company when I decided to become a Realtor® myself. It worked well as we also had two young children with busy schedules. I’ve also really loved interior design and home décor so it was a perfect fit for me. That was 40 years ago and I haven’t regretted it for one minute.

DS: I started Dale Sorensen Real Estate in 1978 out of necessity – I needed a job. The large company I worked at for 10 years was moving out of the area and we did not want to relocate. My responsibilities with them included managing their real estate interest in Florida and their resort properties in the Dominican Republic, so I had to obtain my broker’s license. After a lot of discussion with Matilde and our family, we decided to go into business ourselves.

What are you favorite parts of your job?

MS: I love meeting new people and getting to know them and their families. It’s fun sharing everything that Vero Beach has to off

er; this is a growing community, but it’s never lost its small-town feel. I love going into homes and learning all the specifics about each one and what makes it unique and special.

What makes your company stand out?

DS: Since our inception, we have made community service a priority. We are company, and a family, that gives back to the community in many ways. In addition, we have created a very recognizable brand, not only in our area, but throughout the industry; for this we are indebted to our children, Dale Jr. and Elizabeth. We are noted for our creative marketing programs and cutting-edge technology. Two of they key elements that bind all this together are our reputation for fairness and honesty along with the level of service we provide our customers. In very simple terms – you reap what you sow.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

DS: Outside of work I enjoy fishing and diving with my grandson, JD, and son, Dale Jr. I still play little tennis and play golf regularly. Matilde and I love to travel and to have been fortunate to have traveled all over the world.

Where are you favorite places to travel?

DS: Italy – especially Tuscany and Venice, Napa Valley, Burgundy, London, Paris and Hong Kong.

What inspires you to succeed?

MS: It’s the people that inspire me to succeed. Success to me is when I hand over the keys to a home and see the looks on the new homeowner’s face; that look of pride and ownership. Or when I’m able to tell a seller that I found a buyer for their home. I don’t feel like I sell homes – I develop a relationship with clients based on their personalities and find them the perfect home.

Micky Decker joins the DSRE Team

 

If you’ve lived in Vero Beach for any amount of time, chances are you crossed paths with Micky Decker.  Her reputation as a banker in the area is such that if you asked anyone for a referral for a banker, most people would say “Go see Micky Decker”.  This exceptional reputation is sure to continue as she begins her new career in the real estate industry.

Dale Sorensen Real Estate creates Heroes On the MovE program

In the early morning hours of December 18, 2015, then Indian River County Sheriff Deputy Chris Lester was shot in the line of duty by a convicted criminal trying to escape arrest.  Today, the Law Enforcement Officer, now a Detective, and his wife are the first recipients of Dale Sorensen Real Estate’s Heroes on the MovE (HOME) program.

Dale Sorensen Real Estate (DSRE) created Heroes On the MovE in order to reward local heroes by giving them a credit or cash rebate when they buy or sell a home.  It’s also a way for DSRE to show First Responders, Active Military and Veterans, and Education Professionals appreciation for what they do and the sacrifices they make every day. The program also gives a contribution to local organizations that support those same heroes.

“My wife and I are thrilled to be able to take advantage of this program from Dale Sorensen Real Estate,” said Detective Chris Lester. “We’re selling a house and purchasing another so we will actually be able to take advantage of this program twice.  It means so much to us that they not only appreciate what we do, but that they honor us this way.  I also really like the fact they will be donating to another organization that supports first responders. This isn’t the first time we’ve used Dale Sorensen Real Estate and it won’t be the last.  They are truly a great community partner and a friend of first responders.”

The rebate is calculated at 25% of the commission received by DSRE in connection with its representation of the hero in the transaction. For example, a $200,000 sale or purchase would equal a $1,500.00 rebate (up to a maximum of $5,000). There are no costs or fees to the hero.  In addition, 2.5% of the gross commission will be donated by DSRE to local hero-related organizations. DSRE broker associate Floyd White Celebrates 60 years with Boy Scouts of America

Dale Sorensen Real Estate is pleased to announce that Floyd White will be celebrating his 60th anniversary as a member of the Boy Scout of America. White began his scouting journey when he was just 7 years old.  A short ten years later he earned his Eagle Scout Award.  He has held many unit and district positions as an adult.

“Scouting is a way of life and has served as my moral compass,” White said.  “I believe in the Scout Law and use that in all aspects of my life.”  The Boy Scouts of America Scout Law is:  A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. Currently, White is a Member of the President’s Cabinet for the Central Florida Council and serves as Chairman of the National Eagle Scout Association committee. He also heads a committee of volunteers who will be honoring 440 Eagle Scouts and 20 adult volunteers for their dedicated service.  Close to 1,000 guests are expected to attend this annual recognition banquet at the Rosen Center in Orlando.

White will also celebrate 42 years as a Realtor® this year and believes the character traits that make for a good a Scout are the very same that make an exceptional Realtor®.  He’s a Top Producing Realtor® and is a recipient of the Dale Sorensen Real Estate Community Spirit Award.  “I believe that if you want the place where you live to be better, you must give of your time to make it so.”

White grew up in Daytona Beach where his parents owned a real estate firm.  White graduated from Mercer University in Macon Georgia where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.  He then attended University of Florida Graduate School.  Sadly, his father passed away unexpectedly while he was still in school and he chose to go home and help his mother with the business.  Over the years, White has worked in residential and commercial sales and leasing, property development and management and appraising.

Floyd is especially knowledgeable in the residential arena with a focus on selling single family homes from villas to luxury waterfront properties.  When not marketing his listings, he enjoys assisting 1st time homebuyers and retirees downsizing.  As one of Brevard County’s most popular Realtors®, White believes experience and communication skills are extremely important for any agent.  “I listen and learn a lot from my customers during our initial conversation. I prefer to build a relationship with customers and to earn their trust. Their real estate goal becomes mine and I work on their behalf to make it as profitable, timely and uncomplicated as possible.”  His customers also appreciate his easy, laid-back personality which makes him comfortable to work with.

White is driven to be helpful, another trait instilled by scouting.  He has been a volunteer for many organizations in Brevard County, including, March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, The Melbourne and Cocoa Beach Chambers, the King Center and the Melbourne Art Festival to name a few. He is a 1993 graduate of Lead Brevard.

Hayley DeWitt joins the DSRE Team

Hayley DeWitt grew up in the Mid-West, where she learned the value of working hard.  This value has served her well, but its her clients who benefit from it.

Hayley spent 16 years in the professional sports arena working for the Chicago Cubs. While there she gained diverse experience in sales, marketing, customer service, event management and operations. Hayley was responsible for arranging travel for 150 people, event management, travel, housing, contracts and benefits for a roster of 40 baseball players.   “I believe my experience with the Cubs has given me exactly the skills needed to be a great real estate sales agent,” Hayley said.  “As the Executive Assistant to the President of Baseball Operations & EVP/GM, I became expert at juggling many tasks at the same time, problem solving and time management. I’m used to taking on a project and managing it beginning to end as efficiently and effectively as possible. Handling housing for players and staff was my first foray in to the real estate industry.  I learned that I loved working in real estate and I’m now able to pursue that passion every day.”

Hayley loves many aspects of the real estate industry, including staging, design and decorating.  But the real passion comes from working with her customers.  “I believe that in real estate, the customer has to come first,” Hayley said.  “I make myself available when my customers need me to be.”  Hayley is also extremely comfortable with social media including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and likes using those platforms to help sell her customers properties, or to help find the perfect dream home for her buyers.  Although Hayley works throughout Brevard County, she really enjoys working with the 55+ community and new construction.

Hayley, who vacationed in Vero Beach as a child, moved to Brevard County from the Midwest to join family and fell in love with the area.  Her hobbies include spending time outdoors, concerts, interior design, fantasy football, paddle boarding and spending time with family, friends and her Labrador Bentley.  She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Operations Management and Information Systems with a minor in Marketing from Northern Illinois University.

Associate Kim Tillett Finds Success On Reality TV Programs

In a little less than two years, Kim Tillett has earned a bit of a reputation for HGTV programs.

Tillett, a broker associate with Dale Sorensen Real Estate, has notched appearances on five episodes for two HGTV programs.

Tillett filmed her first episode in 2015 for Beachfront Bargain Hunt, which premiered in January of 2016.

She has also filmed four episodes for HGTV’s Island Life. The first three appeared in 2017 and the fourth will premier this fall.  She recently received a call from “Island Life” producers about filming another episode this summer.  

“I love being a part of HGTV’s shows,” Tillett said. “When they called me in 2015 and offered me the opportunity, I jumped at the chance to highlight our community on a popular television show.  I’m very flexible with my schedule so I’m able to work with their schedules and timing.  And, I love meeting people and talking to them and showing property.”

 It’s also good exposure for Dale Sorensen Real Estate and Brevard County.  Tillett has shown properties on Merritt Island and in Cocoa Village for the shows.

Formerly from New York, Tillett attended college at the University of Central Florida, moved back to New York, and then relocated permanently to Florida 16 years ago.  She joined Dale Sorensen Real Estate in May 2017 to take advantage of the company’s brand and marketing.

Tillett works out of Dale Sorensen’s recently opened Cocoa Village office.  She specializes in high end luxury properties on Merritt Island and in Cocoa Village with a focus on Brevard’s coastline, including beachfront and waterfront single family and homes and condominiums.

Latest existing home sales figures (June 2018) for Brevard County, released Monday by the Space Coast Association of Realtors

  • Median sales price: Up 4.5 percent to $229,950 compared to a year ago, which was $220,000.
  • Year-over-year sales: Down 7.3 percent. Units closed was 958 compared to 1,033 in June 2017, with a decrease in cash sales of 12.7% compared to June 2017.
  • Months supply of inventory: Up 14.8 percent to 3.1 months, an increase from 2.7 months in 2017.

Dale Sorensen Real Estate Supports Steve Weagle’s Ride for The American Red Cross with VIP Partnership

Dale Sorensen Real Estate supported the 2018 Ride for the Red Cross with a financial gift presentation of $1,250. Chief Meteorologist Steve Weagle made his annual Ride for the Red Cross, beginning June 4. For the 20th year, Steve spent five days riding a bicycle from Sebastian to Boca Raton to mark the beginning of hurricane season and raise awareness of the Red Cross. His bicycle was auctioned off at the end of the ride and the money donated supports the Red Cross chapters along the Treasure Coast of Florida.
