Sorensen Realtors show true spirit
of giving

As this special story of unconditional giving
demonstrates, sometimes all it takes to effect change is to tell one
person about it. He or she tells another, and pretty soon a group has
joined together to work for the greater good. This very situation
occurred during the recent holiday season, when a member of Dale
Sorensen Real Estate (DSRE) in Vero Beach spoke to Kelly Baysura, the
assistant principal at Fellsmere Elementary.
“We have some extreme cases of poverty in our school
and community,” Kelly said. “When I say that children do not have
the basic needs, such as food, clothing and shoes, and that families do
not have the creature comforts such as electricity, furniture and
appliances, I am not exaggerating. But, in spite of the extreme poverty,
our students show up to school, clean, smiling and ready to learn. This
is a very proud culture.”
As word spread within DSRE, they decided to take
action. Within only a few days, Dale Sorensen Real Estate owners and
Realtors organized a caravan, visiting the school, the community and
three of the neediest families — where they witnessed, first-hand, the
living conditions that students endure.
So, they decided to cancel the annual DSRE Christmas party and
instead donated the entire budgeted amount to the children and their
families. In addition, many of the Realtors made individual donations.
The funds donated by DSRE totaled $5,635. This, on its own, is
remarkable. Yet, consider this was done in a time when the real estate
market is so challenging.
DSRE also made sure that 545 students received gifts
from “Santa.” The DSRE donation will also help students go on field
trips who would otherwise not be able to attend.
“This was done in a very short
time frame — maybe two weeks tops,” said Kelly.
To show their thanks, the
children presented a special appreciation salute and performed a
traditional Mexican song and dance to members of DSRE.
Three families with extreme needs were helped with
donations of medication, food, clothing, furniture, and funds to pay a
tax bill, a mortgage payment, and a utility bill. Some members of DSRE
even donated some of their own furniture.
Kelly expressed, “We are extremely touched by Dale
Sorensen Real Estate’s generosity and spirit of giving.”
Dale Sorensen happily stated, “I am very proud of our
associates and administrative staff who responded in the true Spirit of
Christmas.”
